About Socoz Design
The in-house marketer behind Socoz Design.
Socoz Design is run by Tim Bish, a Saginaw, Michigan marketer with 19 years in marketing and training. For three years, Tim was the in-house marketing lead at Vantage Plastics, a Michigan thermoformer, where he ran marketing solo across five business units and a nonprofit. Socoz Design offers that same in-house role, part-time, to owner-led businesses.

The in-house job
What does the in-house job teach you that an agency never sees?
Three years on a manufacturer's payroll teaches things a kickoff call can't. I learned what a buyer types into Google before requesting a quote, what an engineer needs to see before trusting a supplier, and how an owner decides whether marketing is worth the money. I learned that the best content comes from walking the floor and asking the people running the machines what customers always ask them. And I learned what it's like to be the only marketing person in the building, with five brands and a nonprofit counting on the work.
Going independent
Why go independent?
Most owner-led businesses need a marketer and can't justify a full-time one. I saw that gap from both sides: from inside Vantage, and in conversations with owners across the Great Lakes Bay Region who were paying for ads and websites that weren't producing work. Socoz Design fills that gap with a part-time version of the job I'd already done. When I went independent, Vantage stayed on as a client.
In-house, off payroll
What does "in-house" mean if I'm not on your payroll?
It means working the way a good employee would. I learn the business before I write about it, I build content from your real work, I'm the one person who answers for the results, and everything gets measured against your inquiries and jobs.
The standard
What does Socoz Design optimize for?
Four standards. Every page, post, and decision has to make your business more findable, more provable, more consistent, or more measurable. If a tactic doesn't move one of those, it doesn't ship.
Findable
Customers find you on Google and inside AI assistants without needing a referral first.
Provable
Capabilities, certifications, service areas, and real outcomes live on the page in plain text, where buyers and AI systems can read them.
Consistent
Website, social, and sales materials sound like one business with one voice, and that voice is yours.
Measurable
Every move ties back to inquiries, jobs, or a number you already track, reported monthly in plain English.
Where AI fits
Where does AI fit?
AI is how one person carries a department's workload. It handles research, first drafts, structured data, and search structure, so production that took a team a week takes me a day. That's why a search-ready site starts at $999 instead of the $8,000-plus a traditional studio often quotes. Strategy, taste, and accuracy stay with me, and AI never decides what a buyer cares about or what a process actually does.
Same person, different job: I also train teams to use AI on their own work through Understanding Your AI, a separate practice.
My background also includes years in education, including time as a school principal and system administrator. It's where I learned to explain technical things plainly, which is why your monthly report reads like a conversation instead of a data dump.
